Advancing Research e library’s contribution to research has extended far beyond the provision of a research collection. Library sta expertise and services have supported the research of faculty and graduate students. Expertise has been applied to locating hard-to- nd resources and reformatting (digitizing) them into a medium suitable for a faculty member’s research. Library sta o er consultation services to support a range of inquiries from the use of geospatial data sets and GIS so ware to research computing skills and data management plan review. e library has also supported campus initiatives to integrate community-engaged research into interdisciplinary humanities education, from conducting workshops to providing mentorship to students and assisting with access to resources.

The Future From the start, the library has been committed to the university’s mission of research, education, and public service to advance discovery, increase learning opportunities, and contribute to our region and its communities. Its future will continue to build on this foundation. In the year ahead, the library is engaged in exciting initiatives that meet this three-pronged mission of the university. ese include: — collaboration with the School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts (SSHA) to host award-winning author Mark Arax as a Writer in Residence, expanding opportunities to students to learn about the cra of writing from a Central Valley writer — a project to record oral histories from individuals instrumental to the campus’ founding and alumni from the inaugural class — a capital project to expand archival and special collections storage with climate control for long-term preservation of unique materials. e library of the rst research university of the 21st century, like the campus it serves, was built to serve the students and researchers of today and the future.
