STEPS TO

HOW WILL I SUCCESSFULLY TRANSFER?

COMPLETE YOUR MINIMUM ENGLISH AND MATH (REQUIRED) For students planning to transfer to UC Merced for the fall semester, the courses needed to satisfy the English and mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning requirements must be completed by the end of the spring term before enrollment. For spring admission, these requirements should be completed by the end of the summer term before enrollment. *Lower-division transfers, please see the minimum admission requirements on page 19.

COMPLETE MAJOR PREPARATION COURSES (REQUIRED) Use Assist ( assist.org ) to find the required and recommended courses for your major. Pay close attention to the required major GPA. Refer to the insert for your school.

COMPLETE ANY REMAINING COURSES TO ESTABLISH YOUR ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY (REQUIRED) Verify you meet the minimum requirements to qualify for admission as a junior or lower-division transfer student. (We prefer students to transfer at the junior level, but we will consider some lower-division transfer students.)

GENERAL EDUCATION (RECOMMENDED) While general education is not required to transfer, it can help speed up your time to graduation once you transfer to UC Merced. Option A: Complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern. Option B: Complete the UC Merced school-specific general education requirements for the School of Engineering, School of Natural Sciences, or School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts.

To find out which school your major is in, see Page 6.

Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) If you’reworking toward anADT, you should choose courses that align with the requirements at the UC campuses you’re interested in. Treat the ADT as your early road map to UC. You can use ASSIST or our major preparation paths to guide you in choosing the right courses. Although earning an ADT does not guarantee admission to UC, some campuses consider it in the compreshensive review process.
